Slavoj Zizek on the Hypocrisy of Conscious Consumerism

Now this is good.

It’s relevant to assignment 3.

Charity: an early meaning was ‘Christian love’.

For some historical perspective on ‘charity’, here is the inside of a 19th century workhouse in England.

  1. “Hypocrisy” indeed. On the other hand, conscious consumerism with a hypocritical element is better than unconscious consumerism with no inkling of consciousness. That pigs are raised in the same (or worse) conditions as battery chickens is still news to some. The truly conscious core behind the spin has to plug on in spite of the Proud-to-be-Green-and-Aware wannabes.
